Welcome Methodists in the Gallatin Valley! Last week was the transmittal deadline for the Montana Legislature and the legislative body just got back from their transmittal break, which is basically the halfway point of the 90-day legislative session.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term “transmittal” in the legislative context, it means the last day for legislators to make appropriation bill requests, and the last day for the House or Senate to transmit general bills to the other chamber. Then, the legislature takes a five-day transmittal break before they begin the second part of the session, which they need since it’s common for seeing a tsunami of bills passing through the committees just days or hours before the deadline.
Now, that we are past the midway point, the Legislative Squad of SJAT is presenting an additional format of presenting information about the bills we track down each week. We are now doing graphics and video for the legislative updates each week (hopefully) through the end of April when the 2021 session ends. The way you can expect us to deliver the content is one week will be graphics, the following week in video, and repeat. We hope this new strategy will be a more engaging way for people in our congregation(s) to follow the updates. The graphics and videos can also be found in BUMC’s Monday email blast, social media, and YouTube channel.
Below, you can watch SJAT’s first-ever video covering three critical bills (HB 259, SB 215, and HB 427) in the 2021 Montana Legislature. Join co-anchors Pastor Alison Skillman and Zak Wangler in watching this week’s video. Enjoy!
