Montana Legislature Update – Jan. 25, 2021

Montana Legislature:

Bills continue moving through the legislature in Helena, and there are still points at which we can possibly make a difference.

If it is still in a committee:
1) call 406-444-4800 and leave a message for the whole committee or individual legislators
OR 2) go to https://leg.mt.gov/ and send a message on the web. Say whether you want them to vote yes or no and a sentence or two about why. It doesn’t have to be long.
OR 3) sign up on the website to give testimony at least 24 hrs prior to a hearing.

If the bill has passed committee and is in either the House of Representatives or the Senate, use the same phone number or website to contact your representative or senator as appropriate.

Here is the status of bills we are tracking:

HB 102, campus carry of guns, in second house committee, contact Senate Judiciary Committee.

HB 112, HB 113 regarding trans youth participation in sports and medical care, passed House Judiciary Committee, 2nd reading in House scheduled Mon., 1/25, contact your house representative.

HB 121, require elected officials approval of local health board and officer actions, contact House Local Government Committee

Support needed for HB 35 to establish a Missing Persons Review Committee and support needed for HB 36 to establish a missing persons response team training grant program to address missing and murdered indigenous people. Carried by Rep. Sharon Stewart Peregoy. Contact the House Judiciary Committee and your representative.
